U.S., Peru military medics, NGOs treat patients during New Horizons Peru
SAN CLEMENTE, Peru—Maj. ____ Saenz, Staff Sgt. Maranda Tenpenny and Wendy Song attend to a Peruvian dental patient here June 21 as part of a medical readiness and training exercise under New Horizons Peru 2012. New Horizons is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored humanitarian assistance and training exercise that takes place annually in Latin American and Caribbean countries. New Horizons Peru affords Air Force medical personnel the opportunity to hone their skills and train alongside their Peruvian military counterparts while providing the community a needed service. Saenz is a dentist deployed from 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern), Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. Tenpenny is deployed from the 42nd Medical Group, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. Song is a volunteer Spanish interpreter for Project Hope, a non-governmental organization participating alongside the U.S. and Peruvian military during the exercise. (U.S. Air Force photo by Capt.
